Since they started making music together in the winter of 2008, Lion O’Brien have strived to weave the feel-good emotions of a perfect summer’s day into their own original brand of bitter-sweet pop songs.
Formed in Brixton, South London by friends James O’Brien (vocals/guitar) and Mike Jones (bass), the duo were joined by Catherine Wallace (keys/vocals),
Mick Fahy (guitar/vocals/keys) and drummer Sam Coll, and had soon amassed
a collection of finely crafted songs that mixed their love of American indie with the euphoric passion of old motown records, and a fresh take on quirky British
folk-pop.
The band self-released their debut EP, Raincloud Vs Sunshine, in 2009 and having received rave reviews in various fanzines, they were championed by the likes of Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 2 and Tom Robinson on 6 Music. The group toured their acclaimed energetic live shows, supporting the likes of The Wombats and Holloways on the way, and gaining a reputation for their soaring harmonies, dynamic songs and anthemic choruses.
In 2010 Lion O’Brien have continued spreading their music throughout the land and with the imminent release of their new single; We Started A Fire, festival appearances booked throughout the summer - including Hop Farm Festival, Redfest and the Big Chill - and various house parties to play at, it’s going to be a very busy summer.
Lion O’Brien is James, Mike, Catherine, Mick and Sam.
'Let’s take it outside.'
